Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-07-11. Applies to v1 of Barakah Tasks.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Asad Aftab, the individual operator of Barakah Tasks ("Barakah Tasks", "we", "us"), governing your use of the Barakah Tasks app and related services. By using Barakah Tasks you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Questions: email [email protected].

1. The agreement

By downloading, accessing, or using Barakah Tasks, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you use Barakah Tasks on behalf of an organization, you confirm you are authorized to accept these Terms for it.

2. Who can use Barakah Tasks

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least the minimum age required by the app store you installed from. If you are a minor in your region, you may use Barakah Tasks only with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian. Barakah Tasks is a productivity tool intended for a general audience and is not directed at children.

3. What Barakah Tasks is

Barakah Tasks is a task planner built around the rhythm of Muslim life, including prayer-time scheduling and the Hijri calendar.

  • The Free tier runs entirely on your device. Tasks, categories, prayer preferences, attachments, and reminders work without an account and without an internet connection. Free is single-device and is not backed up to our servers — if you uninstall the app or lose the device, local-only data is gone.
  • Premium and Premium + AI add server-side capabilities — cross-device sync, attachment backup and sync, shared-category collaboration, agent access, and (on Premium + AI) AI generation. These are described in-app and in the Privacy Policy.

We may add, change, or remove features over time. We aim to give notice of material changes that affect how you use the app.

4. Your account

You do not need an account to use Barakah Tasks. If you create one (via Google, a passwordless email link, or another supported method), you are responsible for keeping access to your sign-in method secure and for activity under your account. We use a single account per verified email address; signing in with a different method that resolves to an email already on file links to your existing account rather than creating a duplicate. Tell us at [email protected] if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

5. Subscriptions, billing, and "Support the app"

  • Where you pay. Premium and Premium + AI are sold as auto-renewing subscriptions through the Apple App Store or Google Play in-app purchase systems. Entitlements are managed via RevenueCat. Pricing shown in-app is store-localized and may vary by region.
  • Auto-renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel beforehand. You manage, cancel, and request refunds through your app store account, subject to that store's policies — we do not process those payments directly.
  • What happens if Premium lapses. When a Premium entitlement ends, cloud features become unavailable on the timelines described in-app and in the Privacy Policy (for example, collaborative and agent access move to a read-only window before access is removed). Your local data on the device remains yours.
  • "Support the app." The optional contribution surface in the app is exactly that — a voluntary contribution to support development. It is not a donation, charity, sadaqah, or zakat, and unlocks no additional features.

6. Your content and data

Your tasks, notes, categories, attachments, and other content are yours. You grant us only the limited license needed to operate the service for you — to store, sync, display, and back up your content across your devices and to the people you choose to collaborate with. We do not sell your content, and we do not use it for advertising. Where your content lives, what syncs, and what does not are set out in the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for the content you add and share, and for having the right to add and share it. Do not upload content you do not have permission to use.

7. AI features (Premium + AI)

Premium + AI includes a capped number of AI generations per month (300 in v1). When you use the "Use AI" feature, you describe what you want and review a proposal before anything is created — nothing is added to your tasks without your approval.

AI output can be incomplete or wrong; you are responsible for reviewing it before relying on it. AI features do not provide religious rulings, fatwas, or scripture, and must not be relied on for religious guidance. Barakah Tasks does not generate religious text. What is sent to the AI provider, and what is not, is described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Prayer times, Hijri dates, and religious content

Prayer times in Barakah Tasks are calculated estimates derived from your location and the calculation method and settings in your preferences. They depend on accurate location and settings and on the chosen calculation convention, and they can differ from your local mosque or authority. Hijri calendar dates are likewise approximate and may differ by a day from local moon-sighting determinations.

Barakah Tasks is a scheduling and planning tool, not a religious authority. For matters of worship, timing, and religious obligation, defer to your local mosque, scholars, or trusted authority. We are not responsible for a missed, early, or late prayer or observance arising from reliance on the app's computed times or dates.

9. Connected agents (MCP)

Premium lets you connect external AI agents to your account through our public MCP server, under the scopes you grant. You are responsible for the agents you authorize and the access you give them. You can review and revoke connections at any time in Settings → Connected Agents. What an authorized agent can and cannot see is described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Acceptable use

Do not use Barakah Tasks to break the law, infringe others' rights, upload malware, attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' data, abuse or overload the service or its APIs, or harass other people in shared tasks or chats. We may suspend or limit access that violates these Terms or threatens the service or other users.

11. Third-party services

Barakah Tasks relies on third-party providers to operate — including Google Firebase (authentication and cloud database), RevenueCat (subscription entitlements), DigitalOcean Spaces (attachment storage), Google Cloud Run (backend and MCP server), and the Apple App Store and Google Play (billing). Your use of those services through Barakah Tasks is also subject to their respective terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.

12. Termination

You may stop using Barakah Tasks at any time and uninstall the app, which removes device-local data. You can request closure of your cloud account and server-side deletion by emailing [email protected] (in-app account deletion is planned for a later release). We may suspend or terminate access that materially or repeatedly breaches these Terms. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including content licenses you have granted to collaborators, disclaimers, and limitations of liability — survive.

13. Disclaimers

Barakah Tasks is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that prayer times, reminders, sync, or any feature will be accurate, timely, or available at all times. You use the app at your own discretion and risk.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Barakah Tasks and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app — including any missed prayer, reminder, task, or observance. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or the minimum permitted by law.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced in-app before they take effect. The version that applies to your use is the one in effect at the time you take the relevant action. The canonical version lives at docs/terms-of-service.md; the in-app Settings → Terms screen renders the same content from a bundled asset, refreshed with each app release.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be subject to the courts of Pakistan, except where mandatory local law gives you rights in your own jurisdiction.
